Completing these statements does not guarantee your application will be taken forward. Decisions are made by the NPRS committee along with the breeder. No single person will choose to agree or disagree an application. It is a joint decision based on many factors.

A 7+ year commitment*

Pouched Rats can live in excess of 7 years. I can provide a forever home for my Pouched Rat through their entire life.

Daily free range and exercise*

Pouched Rats need daily exercise and supervised free range. I can provide this.

Veterinary care*

If my Pouched Rat became ill, i would take them to a vet capable of treating them. I would either have them insured or be happy to pay any price to have them treated.

Cage and husbandry*

My Pouched Rat will be housed large and solid metal cage, with a metal or perspex base. They will have fresh and dry food everyday, Be provided with accessories in their cage along with sleeping areas.

Breeding, spaying or neutering*

I will under no circumstances breed my Pouched Rat unless this is directly agreed by your breeder or the NPRS. If my breeder advises me or stipulates in my contract. I will have my Pouched Rat spayed or neutered

Communication with your breeder*

I agree to keep in contact with my breeder and NPRS throughout the life span of my Pouched Rat. To notify them of any illness, behaviour issues or other concerns, as well as any positive feedback.

Expectations*

There is no guarantee my Pouched Rat will bond to me, nor is there a guarantee my Pouched Rat will not bite me or refuse to bond with me. I have no expectations of how my Pouched Rat will be. I intend to make an unconditional and life long commitment.

Contract Signing*

My breeder will provide me a contract to sign before I can take my Pouched Rat/s. This contract will be legally binding and I am aware that, should I break this contract, my breeder and/or the NPRS could take legal action against me in court to force my surrender of the animal.
